Over the past two years, MRBO Director Dana Ripper has instructed several classes at the Saline County Career Center in Marshall, including "Bird Conservation in Missouri", "Get to know Missouri's Birds", and "A Bird in the Hand is Worth...Winter Fun". Here are a couple of example class descriptions:

Get to know Missouri's Winter Birds
All those little brown birds in your backyard…could be any one of 10 different sparrow species! Bring some feathered fun into your winter by learning about our foulweather friends. Find out what bird species stay in Missouri, which ones go, and the new ones that arrive. No matter where you live, there are many species that winter in your backyard - and they need
help! Learn which foods will help your backyard birds make it through our crazy Missouri winters, and hear more about the winter ecology of our avian friends.

Gardening for Birds...and YOU!
Sure, you know that hummingbirds like honeysuckle.  But did you also know that they love Missouri’s native columbine, bee balm, and jewelweed?  What other birds can you attract by landscaping with beautiful, low-maintenance native Missouri flora?  Come find out at this class where we’ll discuss landscaping that attracts and benefits birds, along with information on the medicinal qualities of some of these bird-friendly plants that could also benefit you!

Check with the Marshall Public School's SCCC website to register for upcoming classes. There is a bird class every semester!
